Burkina Faso

In 2026, the health situation in Burkina Faso remains fragile, marked by insecurity and high morbidity and mortality rates, mainly due to limited access to care. Insecurity has led to the closure of many health facilities or reduced them to minimal functionality, preventing the delivery of essential services in affected areas. Critical needs include emergency care, vaccination, care for pregnant women and GBV survivors, mental health support, and the management of epidemics such as measles, meningitis and dengue.

Beyond the closure of health facilities, maternal deaths, severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with medical complications, disruptions in the medical supply chain, and shortages of health personnel are major concerns, particularly in areas such as Tapoa, where the hospital mortality rate due to SAM with complications is 17.7 per cent.

In this context, the Health Cluster aims to respond to the needs of approximately 1.3 million people, representing nearly 62 per cent of those identified as in need.
