The health situation in Burkina Faso in 2025 remains alarming, with high morbidity and mortality rates exacerbated by insecurity that hampers access to healthcare. Nearly 31 percent of health facilities are affected by the crisis, with 17.7 percent completely closed. Essential services such as vaccination, emergency care, and support for pregnant women and survivors of gender-based violence are severely compromised.
The mortality rate for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition is rising, especially in the Sahel region, where it has reached 12 percent. Disruptions in the supply chain for medicines and the shortage of healthcare workers fleeing attacks further worsen the situation. Projections for 2025 anticipate an escalation in health needs, with increased risks of epidemics (measles, meningitis, dengue).
The humanitarian crisis affects approximately 6 million people, 2 million of whom urgently need access to healthcare. Priorities include improving access to primary healthcare, vaccinations, emergency sexual and reproductive healthcare (including clinical management for survivors of gender-based violence), and care for the injured.
The Health Cluster’s 2025 intervention strategy focuses on priority actions tailored to the evolving context, addressing challenges related to access and ensuring the sustainability of interventions.
