DRC Ebola outbreak situation report #2 (6 Sept)-French

Overview

Update on the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in Kasai Province (Bulape and Mweka health zones), covering the period 01–05 September 2025:

  • 42 suspected cases reported to date, including 5 confirmed and 15 deaths (38% CFR).
  • 9 patients currently under treatment in Bulape treatment center,
  • 157 contacts identified, but only 19% are under follow-up, raising risk of further spread.
  • Key risks include unsafe burials, contact tracing gaps, and population movements within and beyond DRC.
  • Response actions underway: Rapid response teams deployed, 2000 vaccine doses available, mobile labs on site, and Ebola treatment center installation ongoing.
  • Major gaps: Additional HR surge, logistics (PPE, vehicles, fuel), psychosocial support, safe burials, and improved cross-zone follow-up.

Next steps include intensified community case detection, stronger contact tracing, engagement of local leaders, expanded deployment to neighboring zones and provide proper and quality care to patients.
